“I’ve been taking Pilates classes with Jessica Slonski (Owner/Founder) for more than a year (pre-dating) Form Body Lab. I was first introduced to Pilates as a way to alleviate the symptoms associated with my neuro-muscular disorder. Pilates has helped improve the quality of my life and allowed me to maintain a high level of physical activity. Previously, I had spent considerable resources on an assortment of treatments. Pilates has been without a doubt the best in class. Clinical Pilates has provided me with a targeted program and a team of experts that focus on me. What differentiates Jessica and FormBodyLab? In my mind, it is the philosophy of Jessica Slonski and her team, their integrated approach to wellness, and making me (the client) feel like a part of that team!”
I started Pilates with Jessica many years ago. I found Pilates to be a perfect balance between strength and stretch; work and Zen. I am a fairly avid runner and Pilates has been great for my running form which has resulted in less pain in my body and also faster running times! The biggest difference for me though has been in my day-to-day body awareness. I work at a desk for long hours, like so many people. After starting Pilates, I began to notice how I was sitting at work and I would correct my posture, little by little. Again, the result has been an overall better feeling in my body; back, neck and shoulders especially. The instructors that I’ve worked with at Form have always been fantastic. I love the class sizes and the amount of instruction that is provided is a really unique thing about this studio.
“I highly recommend this studio. I’m past retirement age and new to pilates. The studio is beautiful and so comfortable and non-intimidating. There are no pressure tactics or hard sell. Just incredibly qualified and talented practitioners. Having physio onsite is a distinct advantage. Jane Osborne is an amazing instructor. She is warm, caring and passionate, and works full-on every minute of the session doing her utmost to help me improve. I’ve been working with her for about seven months and am astounded at the improvements we’ve achieved. I am stronger and more aligned, my posture and balance have improved dramatically, and I feel strong and confident. Fewer aches and pains. I am very grateful. It’s easy to give this place a try.”

“As a software developer, I have the daily stress on my body due to long hours sitting at a desk. The physiotherapists at Form Body Lab have been amazing in helping me maintain health and cope with this stress and tension in my body, and have helped me with my posture and relieving my tight neck, shoulders, and upper back. They also helped me work through some injuries due to running and cycling that I recently experienced. I highly recommend the Physiotherapy services that are available at Form Body Lab.”

“I am writing to thank you girls (especially Megan) for your tremendous help through my last stage of pregnancy and thankfully the baby was born on the 2nd of December without a c-section!”

“Not many women talk about the trauma that we endure from childbirth. Well, here it is. Pushing a child out of your body is messy business and a lot can go wrong. Even if things go fine, your body experiences trauma and needs to be rehabilitated. My experience was horrible and I suffered from third degree tearing. It was debilitating. I was taking so many painkillers that the first couple months of my baby’s life is a blur. I couldn’t stand for more than a minute or so for about a month. I couldn’t lift my seven-pound baby from the bassinet for a couple months. I couldn’t sit properly for that time, I had to breast feed lying down on my side, bowl movements were the scariest part of the day as the rectal tearing was more severe than the vaginal tearing. The doctors were no help; they ploughed me with painkillers and stool softeners and sent me on my way. I started to work with Jessica Slonski at Form Body Lab twice a week along with a pelvic floor physiotherapist to rehab. Jessica had an open dialogue with my physiotherapist and they worked to establish a rehabilitation regime that was ever changing as I progressed. The physiotherapist said that she never saw someone with my complications rehab so quickly and she credits Pilates for that.
Jessica’s knowledge and knowhow are second to none. I have worked with many Pilate’s instructors and none have the precision that she has. She has the ability to pinpoint specific weaknesses that are unique to your body and build your physicality, to not only rehab those weaknesses, but also build you a body that is form perfect. While rehabbing my very complicated injury she built me a body that I can be proud of. My posture is better, I am more aware of my body; I’m stronger all over and have longer, leaner looking muscles.
Now that I am pregnant with my second child working with Jessica has evolved into building me a strong and reliable body that can handle the many changes that a pregnant body endures. The result is a much happier and healthier pregnancy. My body adapts easily to the quick weight gain, the changes in my skeletal structure are not painful and I feel like the baby has more room. Jessica is sensitive to the ever-changing needs of a pregnant woman, adapting exercises to accommodate certain uncomfortable position without compromising the workout.
Form Body Lab has become such an important part of my health and lifestyle that even my husband has begun doing Pilates with Jessica and the results in his already athletic body are amazing. She gives athletes more body awareness so that they can get the most out of any kind of exercise they choose.”
“I was referred to Jessica after several years of chronic pain. I was off work and my body was just not cooperating. Jessica created a pilates program for me that got me back to work and feeling better than ever! She looked at me as a whole person and worked on my specific weaknesses and imbalances, tailoring every weeks exercises and program to what was going on in my body. It often changed and Jessica easily adapted the exercises she gave me so that I continued to make progress. It was challenging but she made it fun and the hour would always fly by! She was a great teacher too, she broke things down so I would understand the movement and how it felt. She taught me a huge amount of body awareness which helped me to stay active even on the bad days. After years of seeing other health professionals for chronic pain, it was Jessica’s expert knowledge, kindness and patience that got me back to work and out into the world of hiking, biking, playing sports and being active again. If you have pain, give pilates and Form Body Lab a try!
“Having practiced Pilates and yoga at a number of studios in Vancouver, I can honestly say that the quality of instruction and level of expertise I’ve experienced at Form Body Lab far exceeds any other. With small class sizes, experienced and passionate instructors, and a beautiful and calming environment, a visit to Form Body Lab is the perfect way to unwind after a busy day. I would recommend this gorgeous space as well as Jessica and her amazing staff to anyone.”
“The newest and best Pilates studio in Yaletown! I’ve been taking Pilates, yoga and Gyrokinesis classes from day 1 when Form Body Lab opened. All of instructors are well trained with years of experience. My favourite part of this wide open, clean space studio is the professional and friendly atmosphere. If you want to try Pilates, yoga and/or Gyrokinesis, the timing couldn’t be better!“
“I have been doing Pilates with Jessica for the past four years and with her help I have seen some amazing changes in my body. I am a hairdresser and we are really hard on our bodies; when I first started seeing Jess I had these bumps on my back, one under my neck and the other at the bottom of my spine. When I pointed them out to her, she said that she could fix it, and she did. I stand much taller now and my back is smooth and free of any weird bumps. I also found that my arms started moving separate from my back, which made my job so much easier and less painful. Form Body Lab is an amazing studio. Its very peaceful feeling and has talented and experienced instructors. I would not think twice about going to see any one of the people that work there. When you walk in you are welcomed by a friendly receptionist and offered a nice, warm cup of tea while you wait. It’s such a great way to start unwinding from the day before you do Pilates or have one of the many other services that they offer. Form Body Lab will do great things for your body!”
“In the Fall of 2011, at 38 years old, I felt in many ways like I “had it all”. I was healthy, happy and professionally successful. This all changed on November 6, 2011. During a trip to Northern BC I suffered “cerebral infarct” or stroke. I was soon med-evac’d to Vancouver, which is home for me. En route to Vancouver, I suffered a major brain haemorrhage. Upon arriving in Vancouver, I was immediately taken in for emergency brain surgery. I awoke in the ICU and couldn’t move my head and my neck was extremely sore, and swollen to the same width as my shoulders. It turned out that during my surgery, meningitis bacteria present in the room got into my brain. To fight this very serious condition, I was placed on a powerful antibiotic called vancomycin. Within a day my situation was complicated by an extremely high fever, around 47 degrees Celsius or 116 Fahrenheit. The fever wouldn’t break, and eventually 7 teams of specialists were on the case, and after several days someone finally discovered that I was having an allergic reaction to the vancomycin. Once off that drug, I started to improve, although it quickly became apparent how much damage the haemorrhage, meningitis and fever had done. Initially I had paralysis primarily of the entire left side of my body. My right side was briefly paralyzed as well, although quickly became a problem just of weakness.
After two months in hospital I was transferred to the rehab hospital GF Strong to continue my recovery. After another two months in the rehab hospital, I was ready to go home. I had regained movement and use of my left side, and left the wheelchair behind at the hospital.
Although now home, I still had a long way to go in my recovery. My physiotherapist had recommended I look at clinical Pilates as a key rehab tool. I had extensive damage to the nerves and tissues of my back, predominantly my low back and pelvis. Clinical Pilates was recommended to work towards pelvic stability, a key element in allowing me to be functionally and confidently ambulatory. Although I had left the wheelchair behind, my pelvis was so unstable and my core so weak I often didn’t feel safe just trying to walk two blocks to the grocery store.
I first began Pilates at the clinic where I attended my neuro-physio sessions. As I progressed away from needing the Neuro specialist physiotherapy, I knew I wanted to keep up the Pilates, as I felt it had made the biggest difference in helping me feel safe and stable when I was out and about. I discovered Form Body Lab, which is only 2 blocks from where I live, so I was excited to see if I could continue my rehab there. The studio was welcoming and the environment was extremely supportive and positive. Having felt broken and like a “patient” for so long, it was wonderful to be treated just like any of the other Pilates students.
I felt completely comfortable continuing my rehab with the team at Form Body Lab and was confident that my special needs and required modifications would be handled well. I continued to progress well and I’m very happy to say that I’ve now been going faithfully about 4 times per week to Form Body Lab for the past 4+ years and I cannot imagine how much further behind my recovery would be if it were not for Pilates and the talented team at Form Body Lab. Form’s owner Jessica, has been extremely conscientious to ensure the moves I’m doing are always safe and has helped me modify several positions, movements and supports to be more appropriate for my needs.
In my other efforts to regain my health and fitness, I have incurred a few injuries as I have occasionally tried to do things my body hasn’t been ready for. Every time I’ve come in with yet another injury, the team diligently works to figure out how I can adapt around the injury so I don’t feel I have to have a complete setback. They have communicated about me with each other and I’ve often found I don’t need to re-explain my injury to each instructor as they have already discussed me with their colleagues. This has made things much easier for me, and has allowed me to stay focused on what I CAN do, instead of what new setback I may be having. It’s an important element of my emotional well-being and recovery.
Jessica, in particular, has been hugely helpful in this way. I have a tendency to get frustrated and angry at my body’s challenges, and Jess has been impactful in helping me acknowledge I need to be nicer to myself and appreciate what my body can do.
Pilates has played a crucial role in my recovery thus far, and I have recommended it as a rehab tool to many people in the health care / stroke recovery field. I think anyone in recovery, particularly if it’s from a neurological condition, could benefit greatly from clinical Pilates and I highly recommend Jessica’s team at Form Body Lab!”
