Our Tailored Services

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a method of treatment that involves the insertion of thin, sterile, metal needles at various locations on the body in order to stimulate specific points called acupuncture points.
After insertion, the practitioner may manually manipulate the needles and then leave them in place for approximately thirty minutes.
Acupuncture is used to regulate the flow of energy throughout the body by increasing circulation, improving immune function, boosting metabolism, and relaxing the nervous system.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping is a targeted method of treatment that uses suction cups to gently stretch the skin, fascia, and layers of muscle.
Practitioners apply oil to the areas of the body being treated then place cups with vacuum suction over specific areas of the body. The cups can be left in place for several minutes or moved around as a form of massage. During the treatment, marks or redness may appear on the skin and may remain for several days after the treatment.
Cupping is used to encourage blood circulation and lymphatic drainage which can reduce inflammation, boost immune function, and relax the nervous system. This therapy is often a great complement to acupuncture and is a good alternative for people who are nervous about needles.
Cupping Treatments are commonly used for stress management, acute and chronic pain, musculoskeletal issues, detoxification, and respiratory problems
Guasha
Guasha is a method of treatment that involves gentle scraping across various parts of the body with a smooth-edged tool.
Practitioners apply oil to the areas of the body being treated which allows the tool to move across the skin more smoothly. The practitioner will apply pressure to the tool and gently use smooth, firm strokes to scrape across the skin. During the treatment, marks or redness may appear on the skin and may remain for several days after the treatment.
Guasha is used to promote circulation, reduce inflammation, and gently break up stagnant scar tissue. This treatment is similar to Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) used by physiotherapists. This therapy is often a great complement to acupuncture and is a good alternative for people who are nervous about needles.
Guasha treatments are commonly used to treat musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory issues and immune problems including the common cold and flu.
Moxa
Moxibustion, more commonly referred to as moxa, is a form of heat therapy.
Practitioners heat the herb mugwort, either directly on or near the skin, in order to heat various points on the body. Moxa is used to heat the body in order to promote circulation and increase energy.
Moxa treatments are commonly used to treat fatigue, menstrual disorders, digestive issues and turn breech babies.

Acupuncture Clinic Vancouver Downtown FAQs
What Should I Expect During My First Acupuncture Session?
Your first acupuncture session will begin with a thorough consultation to understand your health history and current concerns. The practitioner will then insert fine needles into specific points on your body, which may be followed by a gentle manipulation. The needles typically remain in place for 20-30 minutes. You might feel a tingling or dull ache, but the process is usually relaxing.
How Many Acupuncture Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions required varies based on the individual and the condition being treated. Some people experience relief after just one session, while others may need several treatments over weeks or months. For chronic conditions, a series of 6-12 treatments is commonly recommended. Your acupuncturist will provide a tailored treatment plan based on your specific needs.
Can Acupuncture Be Combined With Other Treatments?
Yes, acupuncture is often used in conjunction with other treatments and therapies. It can complement Western medical treatments, physiotherapy, and other traditional treatments like cupping and moxibustion. Combining therapies can enhance overall effectiveness and provide a more comprehensive approach to health and wellness.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture is generally not painful. The needles used are extremely thin and much finer than those used for injections or blood tests. Most people feel little to no pain upon insertion. You might experience a slight tingling sensation or a feeling of heaviness at the needle sites. The overall experience is typically very relaxing.
